Impact of Taxes and Fees on the Productivity of the Palestinian Industrial Sector

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effect of taxes and fees on the productivity of the industrial sector in Palestinian case, also in the details at the level of economic activity. To achieve the objectives of this study, the descriptive and quantitative methodology was used. Based on the data of the economic survey series cross sectional data in 2015 was used and, provided by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the Ordinary Least Squares Method (OLS) was used in regression analysis. The study found that the effect of taxes on the productivity of the industrial sector is small in general and varies according to the nature of the economic activity. This is different from the expectation that the effect of taxes will be negative. This is mainly because the high degree of tax evasion in Palestine while it does not constitute as a burden in other countries.

Yousef Abdel Jawad, An- Najah National University

Mr. Abdel- Jawad is a math teacher at Deir Ballout Boys Secondary School in Palestine, and he previously worked for the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) as a statistical assistant. He received his master degree in Management of Economic Policy from An- Najah National University in Palestine in 2018. He received his bachelor's degree in Mathematics Applied to Economics from Birzeit University in Palestine in 2012.

Shaker Zabada, An- Najah National University

Dr. Zabada is an Assistant Professor, lecturer and  researcher at the Department of Economic Science at An- Najah National University in Palestine. He received his Ph.D in Economics applied of engineering from Lille1 University in France in 2014, and his master degree in Economic Science at Birzeit University in 2006 in Palestine, and he received his bachelors' degree in Economic Science at An- Najah National University in 2002 in Palestine. He interested in industrial economic, urban economic and economics of energy and smart cities.
